Before proposing solutions, the causes of the difficulty have to be identified properly. A psychoeducational assessment does not stop at observing behaviour: it analyses the interaction between the person and their environment (family, school, work).
Why
Why ask for an assessment
A full assessment puts words to what hurts, and draws a precise roadmap for the work that follows.
- Identifying the strengths and the challenges of the child or the adult.
- Understanding where so-called “difficult” behaviour comes from. In psychoeducation, we assess the function of disruptive or inappropriate behaviours. That way, we can target adaptation strategies or more effective, appropriate replacement behaviours.
- Informing a diagnosis, alongside other professionals such as physicians or neuropsychologists.
- Supporting a request for school accommodations or specialised services.
How it works
How the assessment runs
A rigorous, multidimensional approach, usually spread over a few meetings.
The initial interview
A chance to gather the life history, the concerns and the family’s goals.
Clinical observation
At home, at school or in the childcare setting, we observe the client in their natural environment.
Standardised tools
Administering scientifically validated questionnaires and psychometric tests.
Analysis and synthesis
We cross-reference the data to build a full picture of adaptive functioning.
The findings meeting
A virtual handover of the detailed written report, with concrete, prioritised recommendations.
Practical terms
Fees
- Opening a file$30
A file-opening fee, payable to cover the initial call, the creation of the client file and holding a place in one of our psychoeducators’ schedules.
- Full psychoeducational assessment$1,200
- One observation at home or in the childcare setting, within a 30 km radius.
- One teleconsultation with the parents or the client.
- Interpretation of one clinical test.
- Writing the report.
- A virtual report handover, 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Additional fees may apply on more complex files.

What people ask us most
How is your assessment different from a neuropsychologist’s?
A neuropsychologist assesses cognitive functions (memory, attention), while a psychoeducator assesses behaviour and everyday adaptation. The two are complementary, and ours often becomes the basis for applying the neuropsychologist’s recommendations in real life.
How long until I get the report?
The full process (from the first meeting to the report handover) usually spans four to six weeks, depending on the complexity of the file and how quickly the questionnaires come back.
Can an assessment be done entirely online?
In some cases, yes. For a full assessment though (particularly with young children), we strongly recommend at least one in-person observation session, at home or in the setting, for clinical accuracy.
